Likhit Kajrolkar
Dhrupad Bansuri Artist | Disciple of Ustad Mohi Baha’ud-din Dagar
About
Born and raised in Mumbai, Likhit developed an interest in Indian Classical Music at an early age of 4. He was introduced to flute, harmonium and vocals under the tutelage of his father, Shri Amol Kajrolkar, after which he seriously pursued his musical journey with the flute as his chosen medium. He has received flute training and expert guidance from Pt. Milind Sheorey, a disciple of Vidushi Ma Annapurna Devi of Maihar gharana. He is currently a disciple of Ustad Mohi Baha’ud-din Dagar under whose guidance he has been studying Dagarvani Dhrupad in the guru-shishya parampara. His focus has been on the gharana’s unique approach to alaap and intricate raagdari. He also takes guidance from Pandit Pushparaj Koshti of the same gharana. He has over 10 years of experience in playing flute, and continues to be a dedicated practitioner of Dagarvani Dhrupad – an important and ancient form of Hindustani music that has been nurtured for 20 generations by musicians of the Dagar lineage.

TAKING THE WORK FORWARD
Likhit is one of the few Dhrupad performers on the Bansuri and shares his knowledge with students worldwide. He implements a variety of techniques and modifications in order to bring out the gayaki and beenkar ang as well as subtle shrutis on the Bansuri. He remains inspired by his Ustad’s sincerity to the art form and emphasis on integrity of expression which does not dilute itself to appeal to public demands, and wishes to carry this ideology forward
